The bushfire crisis ravaging Australia

How we’re helping the Australian bushfires

How we’re helping the Australian bushfires

We’re heartbroken about the current Australian bushfire disaster – here’s how we’re pledging our support

Here at BLOCH, like the rest of the world, we’re devastated to witness the destruction and tragedy caused by the current bushfire crisis — one of the worst seasons on record — ravaging south-eastern Australia since September and we want to help in any way we can.

In order to show our support, we’re pledging to donate 10% off our profits between 8th January to 15th January to charities WIRES Wildlife Rescue Organisation (@wireswildliferescue) and Australian Red Cross (@redcrossau) to assist the victims and wildlife impacted by this tragedy, as well as the brave firefighters and volunteers risking their lives to tackle the blaze.

BLOCH has a deep-rooted connection to Australia – in fact, the very first pair of BLOCH ballet shoes were engineered in a candlelit workshop in Paddington, Sydney back in 1932. Our company’s founder Jacob Bloch, a shoe maker by trade, emigrated there from his home in Eastern Europe during the height of the Great Depression in 1930, in order to craft professional footwear to make a difference to the dancer’s profession over there. Whilst visiting a local dance school, he witnessed a young dancer struggling to stay en pointe and vowed to craft a better pair of pointe shoes to help, and so our brand was born.

During this same period, many overseas ballet companies toured Australia, including the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, and it was down to Jacob to create bespoke pointe shoes to meet each of the Russian dancer's specifications. It was here that the famous BLOCH pointe shoe was established.

Today we continue to celebrate and pay homage to our heritage in Australia and so we are deeply saddened about this crisis happening there right now. Our thoughts are with all those affected.
